This blog has been created so that you can be part of this amazing process. We, the Flagler College Theatre Arts Department were offered this wonderful opportunity by Historical Tours of Flagler College, and we wanted to share this experience with everyone we knew and everyone who was interested.
The project itself is help celebrate and kick off the 450th Anniversary of St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city. On Friday, September 4th, a fashion show will be held at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm with all of the costumes that we put together, and some. It is FREE to the public and will take place in the rotunda of the former Hotel Ponce de Leon at Flagler College. All of the costumes that will be shown will be a variety of outfits that would have been seen when the hotel first opened in 1888. The pieces that are being built from scratch will be on display in the Flagler Room starting September 12th with free access to residents of St. John’s County.
This Gilded Age Fashion project is being headed by Professor Elaina Wahl-Temple and three of her students: Mary Hickox-graduate, Kayla Lindsay-junior, and Alison Zador-junior. There are many other hands who have helped and will continue to help with this project, of which we have been completely thankful for and will show our gratitude toward as this project moves forward.
We also want to thank everyone who is showing support from near and far, and we hope this blog will not only keep you updated on our progress but also bring you into the recreation of a beautiful time in history.
